Questions people ask

How does the calories burned calculator work?

You choose a sport, enter your weight and how long you played, and pick how hard you worked. The calculator uses calories = MET x weight in kg x hours. A MET says how many times more energy an activity uses than sitting still.

How accurate is it?

It is an estimate, usually within about 20 percent. Your fitness, technique, body build and how hard you really work change the true figure, and fitness watches can differ too. Use it to compare sports and plan your week, not as an exact count.

Which sports are covered?

Badminton, cricket, football, basketball, tennis, table tennis, squash, swimming, running, walking, cycling, yoga, skipping rope, gym workouts, boxing, volleyball and Zumba or dance workouts. Each has its own page with a chart by body weight and time.

What is a MET?

MET stands for metabolic equivalent. Sitting quietly is 1 MET, and an activity at 6 METs uses about six times as much energy. The values come from the Compendium of Physical Activities, a standard research list.

Which sport burns the most calories?

Per hour, high-effort activities such as fast running, hard swimming, squash and skipping rope come out highest. The table on this page ranks every sport for your weight and time. The sport you enjoy enough to keep playing is usually the one that does you the most good.

Is my weight saved?

No. Your numbers are only used to do the sum. They are not saved to a profile.
